His Eminence Cardinal Jose Advincula finally met Pope Francis as cardinal and Archbishop of Manila on April 22, 2022, Friday at 9:45 a.m.
He presented Pope Francis with a gifts made of capiz shells. Cardinal Advincula was formerly the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Capiz. With him is his secretary, Fr. Mico Dellera.
Cardinal Advincula, in his audience with Pope Francis, was also joined by Fr Reupert Manuel Garcia, Fr. Gybbyn Gumban, Fr Mico Dellera and Fr. Albert Flores.
Earlier in the week, Cardinal Advincula met with His Eminence Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, who welcomed him personally to the Pontificio Collegio Filippino.
Cardinal Advincula was proclaimed Cardinal by Pope Francis on November 28, 2020 and was appointed Archbishop of Manila on March 25, 2021. However, this is the first time for him to personally meet the Pope as a cardinal.
He was born in Dumalag in the Archdiocese of Capiz on March 30, 1952 and was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Capiz on April 14, 1976. He studied canon law at both the University of Sto. Tomas in Manila and at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum) in Rome.
He was appointed Bishop of San Carlos on July 25, 2001, and received his episcopal consecration the following September 8. On November 9, 2011, he was transferred to the Metropolitan See of Capiz.
