On October 1, Bishop Danilo Ulep, D.D., of the Prelature of Batanes, appealed for prayers and solidarity in light of the onslaught of Typhoon Julian in the province.
Typhoon Julian, with the international name Krathon, has been devastating the northern part of Luzon since September 30. As it intensified into a super typhoon, Julian caused hazardous conditions in Batanes, the Babuyan Islands, and the Ilocos provinces. Reports indicate that several buildings, including churches, were severely damaged.
In his appeal, Bishop Ulep mentioned that a parish in Basco, the Clergy House, and St. Dominic College of Batanes were not spared from the typhoon's destruction.
They are still awaiting final reports on the total number of affected individuals and properties. Meanwhile, several Facebook posts have shown photos of churches severely damaged by Typhoon Julian.
